About a year ago, I decided to try and convert the whole household from using Windows to Linux. Our servers were already running Linux, but the workstations were dual boot Linux/Windows. I removed the Windows partitions and installed VMWare Workstation on a single computer, for the few instances where we still needed to use Windows. I chose Ubuntu as the flavour of Linux to run and we are now running a mixture of Feisty and Edgy.
Apart from a few initial complaints from the children, the transition was very smooth. We were already running Firefox and Thunderbird, the only real problem was games that ran under Windows. Luckily we have very few computer games, as there is an Xbox, a couple of Gameboys and a PSP in the house.
