Bluetooth A2DP Compatible Adapter.

Journal? I recently got a Nokia N95 8GByte. Not only is it a very nice phone, but the 8 GByte means that I can carry around enough audiobooks and music for everyday listening without needing to carry my iPod.

Unlike my Nokia E61 the N95 had a standard 3.5mm headphone jack and it supports the A2DP Bluetooth profile. This means that I can listen to music via a compatible Bluetooth headset, without wires trailing from the phone to my earphones. Having researched the market, I couldn’t find any headphones that I liked. I don’t like the big cans that go over your head, or similar designs like neck bands. I have a nice pair of Sony in ear headphones which give good sound quality, are unobtrusive and most importantly don’t fall out of my ears! Eventually I found the ideal compromise the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS220 . This is a small Bluetooth A2DP adapter which is supplied with a pair of in ear phones. However, it’s usp is a standard 3.5mm phone jack, so you can plugin any standard headphones.

The adapter has a small sprung clip, a bit like a clothes peg, which you can use to clip onto your jacket or shirt. Now when I am cycling, I put the phone in my pocket and just use my old Sony in ear phones. These have a short cable, so I don’t get tangled up in cable loops. In fact I quite often use the adapter in the car as I can listen to something and make or receive calls hands free. The music fades out and pauses when a call comes in and fades back in when I hang up.

Battery life is good. I get around 4 hrs continuous listening. The only downside is you can’t pair the adapter with more than one device at a time. However, pairing is very straightforward, so this isn’t a major problem.
